ESL Vocabulary – Symmetry

Need a lesson to build up your vocabulary quickly? Try this video lesson.

In English, there are groups of words that have a natural partner. We use these groups of words in literal situations.

We also use these words as idioms. In linguistics, I think these kinds of natural groupings of words are called collocations. Here is an example: salt and pepper.

ESL Video Lesson

This ESL video is a great teaching tool. It shows students about 50 groups of words and phrases that often go together. These are really useful expressions that can help a student’s writing, listening and speaking skills.

Here is your learning lesson. Watch the video. Write down the groups of words that are shown in the story. I think there are about 50 different sets of words.  You may have to watch the video a few times to finish the list.

Next, try to use the expressions and phrases in your writing and speaking. This will help improve your vocabulary skills.
