Week 7: ESL Writing Lessons

Here is a review of the answers for quiz number 1. My ESL students should review this material carefully if they want to do well on the mid term exam, which is coming next week.

Part 1 Fix the Mistakes

Last weekend, we WENT camping in the mountains. ON Saturday, I WENT hiking and my husband and MY two sons WENT fishing. They love to fish at the lake. They stayed there FOR three hours and CAUGHT six fish. Tonight, we WILL eat out. There is A small STEAK restaurant about one kilometer down the road. AFTER that, we will watch a movie.

Bill really likes to play sports, such as baseball, soccer and hockey.

My teacher, Mrs. Jones, gives lots of homework.

Part 3 Fix the Run On Sentences

There are many interesting places to visit in North Carolina. IN the summer many people like to go to the beaches to swim. YOU can see sharks and squids AT THE AQUARIUM AND polar bears and elephants at the zoo. YOU can also go camping in the mountains. NORTH Carolina is a great place to visit.

Part 4 Write a Paragraph

Fish are great pets because they are pretty, quiet and easy to take care of. Having a fish as a pet means you acquire pretty friends. They not only have many beautiful colors but also diverse shapes, so they make your eyes joyful. To have fish means you don’t have to worry about noise. Dogs and cats make noise but fish are very quiet. During their time in your house, you don’t have any difficulties. They don’t need to walk in the park like dogs and they don’t need much food. So, you can feel easy. Fish are great pets. If you want quiet, pretty friends, I recommend fish.

SO and BECAUSE

  • SO means the result, conclusion or consequence.
  • BECAUSE tells the reason; why.

Look at these sentences.
