Learn English Speaking, Basic: Week 2

Here is the plan to help ESL students learn and improve English speaking skills this week.

Quick Review

1. website and syllabus for new students;
2. key points from “Which on is different” exercise (e.g. think about words in many ways – meanings, word forms, syllables, homophones); learn and remember all words from this exercise;
3. lessons learned from 5 x 5 activity (e.g. fluency or accuracy, follow up questions, pronunciation, tone and pragmatics).

Which one is better?

Purpose: to build logical speaking skills

What to do: Read the questions. Choose one answer. Explain why it is better. How to describe which is better? Think about criteria: the thing to compare. For example, you could talk about cost, value, quantity, quality, taste, health benefits, meaning, and so on.
