Learn English Speaking, 7

This week we will review the questions for the midterm exam and spend time with some conversation activities.

SPEAKING EXAM

These are the questions for the class which will have an oral test. (download the pdf here)

Part 1. Reading and Story Summary.

  • Textbook pages 72, 82 and 92. Read and understand these short stories. I will ask you questions about one of the stories.

Part 2a. Vocabulary. Give examples …

  • 3 pairs of homophones, 3 verbs with two syllables, 3 four words with a silent b
  • 3 collocations, 3 kinds of Korean side dishes
  • 3 ways to hedge a sentence or idea

Part 2b. Vocabulary. Explain the meaning of …

  • wrist, joint, organ, yawn, whistle, lettuce
  • bowl, cough, syllable, chaos, janitor, sneeze
  • radish, voluntary action, synonym, settle down, get along with, hang out
  • work out, break up, strict, annoying, serious about, ignore
  • conglomerate, contemplate, convenient, content

Part 3. A Short Discussion of Ideas.

  • Before the exam, you will need to watch two videos. We will discuss one of them in the test. You will need to summarize the character, plot, setting and message.
  • The videos are Ecirava and Blind.

Part 4. Question Forms

You will get a couple of these questions. Please answer with full sentences. Expect follow up questions.
