ESL Speaking Activities

In this activity you will do three things.

  1. Write five questions to ask people you don’t know.
  2. Move around the class. Talk to five people. Ask questions and make notes.
  3. Come back to your seat. Tell your partner what you learned.

For example:

  1. What are your hobbies?
  2. (new student) I like to cook food.
  3. (back in your chair talking to your partner) Kim said she likes to cook food.

Which one is different?

Read four words. Partner listens and explains why one word is different.

  1. Each partner gets a worksheet.
  2. Read four words on one line.
  3. Your partner listens and explains why one word is different.
  4. Is it logical?
  5. Do you have a different answer?

Imagination

Here is the ESL worksheet for this activity.

  1. Work with a partner.
  2. Look at a picture.
  3. Ask your partner, “What does that look like?
  4. Partner answers (for example) “It looks like an eye. here is the white part of an eye and here is the black part.”
  5. Ask your partner to explain more.
  6. Then say your idea.
