Write a Summary

Summarize a Story

Here is a lesson that teaches students how to write a one paragraph summary. In a previous lesson (click here), I showed you how to write a summary with a template called FACT.

In this lesson, use the same style to write a summary about the story in another video.

ESL Writing Lesson – Mind Mapping

The purpose of this ESL writing lesson is to give students an opportunity to work in groups and use the three elements of paragraph style which we studied in class: strong opening sentence, logical organization and unity.

This writing lesson uses two pieces of media: a mind map to encourage detail thinking and a video for inspiration.

Cinderella Mind Map

Here is a mind map of the fairy tale Cinderella. Our writing class will be creating a mind map as a tool to help students write a creative story.

ESL Video Lesson

The next step in the writing lesson is to watch a video. Nuit Blanche is a short dramatic story about a man and woman who meet on the street. In this writing lesson, students will use this video as the basis for their creative story.
