Basic ESL Conversation: Week 7 Activities

My ESL students have been busy learning English as they prepare for the mid term exams, which come next week. Here are three short ESL speaking activities to help my students improve their English and have a little fun.

ESL Speaking Activities

This worksheet helps students become aware of words with V sounds. The worksheet questions have rhymes, general knowledge questions and two brain teasers.

The ESL conversation worksheet is here.

ESL Videos

Here are two videos which can help students improve listening skills and have a little fun in class.

1. Talking Dog

Watch and listen to the video. The man tells the dog about many kinds of food.

What food does the man talk about?

2. Breakfast Table

Watch the video. Make a list of the breakfast food and drinks you see. Don’t forget to add countable nouns when needed. My list has 16 different kinds of food and drink. How many can you get?

The ESL video is here.

ESL Writing: Working with Data and Comparatives

  3. writing sentences that make sense;
  4. synthesizing data by transforming numbers into knowledge.

ESL Student Writing Exercise

Students were given tables of raw data. Their task was to write two paragraphs. One, to identify the major patterns of change in vegetable consumption. Two, explain these changes.
